This research aims to investigate the relationships between prospective social studies teachers’ media literacy levels and media literacy teaching self-efficacy levels. The research design is the multi-factorial predictive correlational model and the study group consists of 197 prospective social studies teachers who continue their education at a state university in northern Turkey in the first half of the 2019-2020 academic year. As the data collection tool, “Media Literacy Skills Scale” and “Media Literacy Teacher Competencies Scale” were used. Descriptive statistics, difference tests, correlation and multiple regression analysis were used in the analysis of the data. The results of the research reveal that prospective social studies teacher have a high level of media literacy skills and media literacy teaching self-efficacy. According to the results of multiple regression analysis conducted to explain the predictive relationships between the variables, the media literacy levels of the prospective social studies teachers significantly explained 59% of the change in the sub-dimension of professional self-efficacy and 41% of the change in the sub-dimension of personal self-efficacy. Based on these results, it can be suggested that the higher the level of media literacy, the more qualified teachers are in teaching media literacy.
