A LEADING ACTOR IN THE LOGISTICS PERFORMANCE INDEXES OF 2007-2018: EVALUATION OF LOGISTICS POTENTIAL AND STRATEGIES OF GERMANY

Abstract

Germany is one of the leading countries in the global logistics industry. The logistics success of Germany has been clearly demonstrated in the 2007-2018 Logistics Performance Indexes. The country has been ranked first in four of the published indexes and third and fourth in the remaining two. All these developments made necessity to be examined of Germany's relative and even absolute superior success in logistics. In this study, it is aimed to investigate the logistics potential and strategies of Germany, which is the leading actor in the 2007-2018 Logistics Performance Indexes. Literature review and comparative SWOT analysis method had used in the research. Study findings demonstrates that the high logistics capacity of Germany, that has also high economic potential, depends on the country's attached importance to logistics infrastructure, communication and transportation systems, intermodal featured logistics villages and centres, education in the field of logistics. In addition, country constantly aims to progress in logistics area and creates short, medium and long term plans and strategies in this field.
