TEACHERS’ VIEWS ON THE PROBLEMS BETWEEN SCHOOL AND FAMILY AND SOLUTION OF THESE PROBLEMS

Abstract

This study, which aims to reveal out the problems between school and family and the solution of these problems based on the views of the teachers, was conducted via qualitative research method and phenomenological design. The research was conducted via10 teachers working in a secondary school in Ankara. Semi-structured interview form was used as the data collection tool in the research. Criterion sampling, one of the purposive sampling methods, was used to determine the study group of the research. As a result of the research, the reasons for the problems at school were determined as the perspectives of the parents, Dunning Kruger syndrome, focusing only on the academic performance of the students, and lack of family engagement in the education process of the students. It has been revealed out that the problems between the school and the family reduce the success of the students, the schools cannot reach their goals and cause lack of motivation of teachers. Teachers emphasized strengthening the school culture as a solution. Based on the findings of the research, it is suggested that the communication and cooperation between the school and the family should be strengthened with various activities, meetings and interviews, and that these events should be announced to the parents on time and through the right communication channels.
